USE OF PLASTIC MATERIALS
In recent decades the world of plastic and rubber has been the key player of the economic and technological development without precedent, so much so that, in recent years, plastic is the category of materials with the highest global increment rate in production and consumption volumes.
In the last decade, the production of plastic volumes has gone over the crude steel.
Thanks to the extraordinary qualities of these materials such as mechanical strength, machinability, electric insulation, lightness, dimensional stability in a wide range of temperatures, elasticity, corrosion resistance, biocompatibility and a moderate economic impact. Plastic allow the carrying out of tailor-made products with complex geometry, strength tolerance, rapidity and low costs.
Plastic is used in various areas and applications such as cars, furnishings, industrial machinery, electronic components, household, pharmaceutics industry, petroleum-processing plants, aeronautics, packaging, textile machinery, cryogenic setting up, pneumatic and oil-pressure equipment and graphic arts.
By the productive process, each sector has its peculiar requirements and problems: high temperatures, extremely reduced temperatures, sealing requirement, corrosion hazard, need of lightness, acoustic, electric and heat insulations, resistance to impact and to abrasion, environmental sustainability, and flame resistance. There is a special plastic able to fully meet all the particular needs of each sector.
We foresee that in the next years plastic industry will keep on its own positive development, also thanks to the continuous improvement of the plastic characteristics and the development of new compound. We will conquer new areas of use, as it happened in recent times with cars, medical, hi-tech and petrochemical fields.
