MANUFACTURING OF PET PRODUCTS

manufacturing of PET products

Industrial gaskets, custom technical articles, semi-finished products, valve seats and insert rings

PET is generally used for the manufacture of components to be fitted inside industrial machinery such as rollers, bushings, cylinders, discs, rings, spacers, skids, wheels, gears, pistons, washers, levers, hubs, plates, shafts.

This material finds application also in the medical, pharmaceutical and food industry. PET has a high strength and stiffness, along with excellent dimensional stability and good chemical resistance.

INTRODUCING PET

The polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is a partially crystalline thermoplastic material, belonging to the family of aromatic polyesters. The raw materials for the condensation of the PET materials are terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. It is distinguished into three different types: the crystalline PET (PET-C), the amorphous PET (PET-A) and the PET copolymers with greater impact resistance (PET-G).

PET can be molded, blown, extruded, machined, welded and glued.

Generally at temperatures lower than 80 ° C has a high strength and rigidity, with little tendency to formation of cracks. The resilience is reduced, while the sliding and friction behavior is good. The PET has good dimensional stability. The maximum operating temperature for long periods is of 100-120 ° C. The good electrical properties are not very sensitive to frequency and temperature. The PET is not very permeable to oxygen and to carbon dioxide. And ‘resistant to weak acids and alkalis, oils, greases, aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons and carbon tetrachloride. It is not acid-resistant and strong alkaline solutions, to phenol and prolonged use in hot water at temperatures above 70 ° C. The PET, under stress, is not subject to cracking. Has excellent stability to weathering, it is unbreakable and considerably lighter.

The PET, thanks to its peculiar characteristics, is suitable for the production of technical articles such as bearings, gear wheels, shafts, guides, clutches, bushings, spacers and gaskets. And ‘particularly suitable for use in electrical and food industry (food contact and with cold water).
