The shaft seals ensure the sealing in the hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders, preventing the leakage of liquids. Compared to the piston seals, the rod seals must meet higher and more critical requirements (low friction, ease of installation, compact design, excellent mechanical properties). Placed inside the head rail, they work against the shaft and assure maximum seal by blocking the flow towards the outside without compromising the performance of the cylinder. They can be single or double-acting.

The amount of usable profiles is remarkable: for a correct choice you should always consider parameters like the temperature, the working pressure and speed, the gasket material, the fluids involved, the coupling backlash, the overall dimensions and the surface roughness.
The shaft seals may be composed by a slip ring in thermoplastic material with an O-ring in elastomeric material; otherwise they can be simply made either in thermoplastic or in elastomeric material. Steel springs can also be inserted.
