Wipers are used to avoid internal contamination of hydraulic/pneumatic systems and are mainly used in dynamic linear applications. Their play a key role to ensure the proper functioning of the hydraulic / pneumatic system, which otherwise would fail prematurely. They can have single or double lip.

There are several available profiles: for a correct choice you should always consider parameters like the working temperature, pressure and speed, the gasket material, the fluids involved, the backlash, the overall dimensions and the surface roughness.
The wipers may be composed by a slid-ring in thermoplastics with an elastomeric O-ring; otherwise they can be simply made either of thermoplastic or elastomeric material. They can also contain steel supports.
The choice of the most suitable material depends from the application criticality. The most popular materials include PTFE (virgin, additivated, loaded with glass, bronze, carbon graphite, carbon fiber, graphite, molybdenum sulphide), POM, PE, polyurethane and various types of rubber (FKM, EPDM , NBR).
